[UPDATE] Italy is the new epicenter of the COVID-19. Italy’s total number of cases is now over 59.000, and with a death toll near 5,500 it has surpassed China’s death toll which is approximately 3,200 death people.

Italy is the second oldest population in the whole world. 23% of its population consist out of people over the age of 65. With that, generally speaking, young Italians spend more time with their elders than other countries. They often live with them or near them. The virus is most dangerous for people over the age of 60. The combination of a high percentage of elderly and many young people interacting with them caused the fast spread of the virus, that resulted in high death tolls.
